Have you ever wondered what criteria we use to find the perfect egg donor for our patients? Through a complicated process, we try to search for the maximum concurrence between a donor and receiver in terms of phenotype, that is, hair and eye colour and body type. We respect possible specific requests of the receiving patient.
What criteria must the donor fulfil?
Only healthy women between the ages of 18 and 35 can donate. They must have passed rigorous gynaecological tests and repeated tests to eliminate sexually transmitted diseases in the initial examination. The donor’s hormonal profile and AMH (anti-müllerian hormone) is obtained from blood samples. These examinations help determine whether her oocytes are of a good enough quality to have a high chance of developing into a healthy embryo and implant in the uterus of the receiver.
Furthermore, the donor goes through a detailed interview with the doctor, in which we check that her overall health is in a satisfactory shape and that she does not have occurrences of severe physical or mental disabilities in her family. We enquire about her education, hobbies and character in order to ensure that her intelligence is not deviated from the population average.
The receiver also fills in a questionnaire with similar topics. We then try to arrange as high a concurrence between the donor and the receiver as possible.
