A polyp is a mucosal protuberance, it can grow e.g. in the endometrium in the uterine cavity, or in the ectocervix. If a polyp is found in the body of a woman trying to get pregnant, it must be removed. It may act like an IUD and prevent pregnancy. Histological examination determines whether the polyp is benign or malign. However, malign polyps are rare in women of reproductive age.
